Candle light vigil Thu Dec 01, 2011

Greenville, SC - Dexter L. Reaves, Mrs. Traci Young Fant of Think2xTwice and the Phi Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. hosted a Candle Light Vigil for family members who are victims of Cold Cases (Homicides) and Missing Persons. The purpose of the event was to explain investigative procedures and provide strategies to assist with the coping process.

The candlelight vigil took place at Reedy River Baptist Church in Mauldin. Families got some tips on keeping their loved ones cases alive and they lit candles to remember each victim. These families tell us the candlelight vigils are one way to remember a shining light that once lit up their lives. But many also have a daily vigil of hoping and praying. "It was three days before she was reported missing and I think that has a lot to do with it. But someone still know," said Edward Shelton, Evelyn Shelton's Father.

"I have a candle light vigil ever since she died. I put a candle in my window and I will burn a candle until I find out what's going on," said Sacha Huff.

Shelton's daughter Evelyn has been missing since May 20 and Huff's daughter was murdered in Greenville Co. in 2006.

Topics covered were:
- How to assist law enforcement during the investigation process
- How to cope with the lost of a family member or friend who is missing or a victim.

The candle light vigil featured two experts in the field of investigations and victim witness.

- Paul Silvaggio (Private Investigator and Former Homicide Investigator)
- Officer Tonya Anderson (Victim Witness Advocate/ Greer Police Department)

At the conclusion of the discussion topics, a candle light vigil in honor of those persons who are missing and victims was held.
